Furnace Installation & Replacement in San Jose, CA

More than a new furnace — a heating system designed for your home, from sizing and airflow to ductwork and commissioning.

Whether you're replacing an aging furnace, pairing it with an air conditioner replacement, or considering a heat pump conversion, every Air Care installation begins with our Home Comfort System Design process: instead of guessing from square footage, we measure the home, calculate the heating load, review airflow and duct conditions, and design the heating system around those findings.

The Air Care Home Comfort System Design

Every installation follows the same five-step process, so your new heating system matches how your home actually performs—room by room. Rather than square footage or rule-of-thumb sizing, ACCA residential design standards call for recognized load calculations so equipment is matched to the home's actual heating needs.

    1

    Comfort Consultation

We begin by understanding how your family uses the home, the comfort problems you want solved, and what matters most to you.

    2

Advanced Home Scan & Manual J Load Calculation

Using LiDAR technology and ACCA Manual J calculations, we measure the home room by room and calculate the design heating load used for equipment sizing.

    3

    Ductwork & Whole-Home Assessment

We evaluate supply and return airflow, duct sizing, static pressure, filter pressure drop and duct condition — plus insulation, thermostat placement and ventilation where relevant. Duct restrictions, leakage or insufficient supply or return capacity can limit system performance even when equipment capacity is appropriate, so you see what we found before installation day.

    4

Custom Comfort Design & Equipment Selection

Only after gathering all of the information do we recommend equipment — matched to the calculated heating load, your ductwork, and your comfort goals, with options compared side by side.

    5

    Commissioning & Performance Verification

Installation isn’t finished when the equipment is in place. We verify airflow, temperature rise, gas pressure where applicable, combustion operation, thermostat and controls, and safety devices before we call the job complete.

Furnace Replacement: Three Paths Homeowners Consider

A heating replacement doesn't have to mean the same equipment that came out. Depending on your home, your existing system, and your goals, there are three common project scopes — and we'll help you evaluate each one.

    Replace the Furnace Only

When your air conditioner is in good condition and the existing system is compatible, replacing just the furnace can be the right scope. We verify blower capability, airflow, and equipment matching before recommending it.

Replace the Furnace + Air Conditioner

Because the furnace blower and the AC share the same central system, replacing both can make sense when equipment condition, compatibility, efficiency goals, or your plans for the home support it. It’s not automatically the better or cheaper path — it depends on your system.

    Convert to a Heat Pump

Some homeowners facing a major HVAC replacement choose to evaluate an all-electric heat pump system instead of another furnace and AC combination, gaining high-efficiency heating and cooling from one system.

Choosing a Furnace: Efficiency, Operation & Sizing

Modern gas furnaces differ in more than brand and price. These are the decisions that actually shape comfort and performance.

    Efficiency & AFUE

AFUE measures how much of the fuel a furnace burns becomes usable heat — standard furnaces run around 80% AFUE, while high-efficiency condensing models reach the mid-to-upper 90s and vent differently. Higher AFUE can reduce fuel use, but sizing, ductwork, and installation quality still shape real-world comfort and cost.

    Burner & Blower Operation

Single-stage furnaces operate at full heating output when firing. Two-stage and modulating equipment can operate at lower heating stages or capacities when the controls and system support it, while variable-speed blowers can adjust airflow. Depending on the equipment, controls and duct system, those operating modes can support longer lower-output cycles, temperature consistency and lower sound levels.

    Sizing Done Right

Furnace sizing should be based on the calculated heating load rather than square footage or simply matching the old unit. Manual J accounts for factors such as insulation, windows, air leakage, orientation and room-by-room heat loss. Oversizing can contribute to short cycling, while undersizing can make it difficult to maintain the indoor setpoint under design conditions.

    A Furnace Doesn't Work Alone

Your furnace is one part of a central HVAC system. A proper installation accounts for everything connected to it.

    Furnace & AC Compatibility

The furnace blower moves air for both heating and cooling, and the indoor AC coil sits on the furnace. When only one component is replaced, we evaluate blower capability, airflow, coil matching, and controls so the combined system performs as designed — without assuming both must be replaced together.

Furnace replacements in San Jose and surrounding cities generally require a permit and inspection. Requirements vary by jurisdiction and project scope, and we handle the permitting process as part of the installation. Flexible financing options are available for qualified homeowners.

Ultra-Low NOx Furnace Replacement & Airflow Improvement in Mountain View, CA

    Mountain ViewUltra-Low NOx Gas Furnace

An elderly couple in Mountain View, CA 94040 contacted Air Care Heating & Cooling after their older furnace stopped working. They wanted to replace the failed furnace but preferred to stay with a traditional gas furnace rather than convert their home to a heat pump system. Air Care installed a new Ultra-Low NOx furnace. During the replacement, the team also addressed an airflow issue with the previous installation: the old furnace had the return air connected through the side of the furnace, which reduced the available return airflow and contributed to louder system operation. Adolph and Chris raised the new furnace, built a new platform, and installed a larger return-air opening to allow the system to draw air more effectively. The homeowners noticed an immediate improvement in operating noise and were very happy with how much quieter the new system was. The project passed the City of Mountain View permit inspection on the first inspection.
