The owner of this Cupertino duplex lived in one unit while a family member occupied the other. Both sides relied on heating systems that were more than 30 years old, and the owner was ready to add air conditioning while updating the property with quieter, more efficient HVAC equipment.
Air Care planned a separate Bryant ducted heat-pump system and ducted air handler for each side of the duplex. The existing ductwork and electrical panels were evaluated as part of the project rather than assuming that either needed to be replaced.
Adrian and Juan installed a Bryant ducted heat-pump system for each side of the duplex. The existing ductwork was retained and sealed, allowing the duct systems to pass the required HERS duct-leakage testing. Air Care also ran the necessary electrical connections from the existing electrical panels.
The owner originally believed the electrical panels would need to be replaced. After completing the electrical load calculations, Air Care determined that the existing panels could support the new equipment. The required electrical connections were run from those panels without requiring panel upgrades.
