A previous Air Care client contacted us when the upstairs air conditioner in their Cupertino home stopped working. The home has separate upstairs and downstairs HVAC systems, and the downstairs system was still operating properly.
The upstairs air-conditioning system was diagnosed as low on R-22 refrigerant. The proposed repair path would have required an LSR/leak search, repair if repairable, and an R-22 recharge. The leak search was not performed, so no leak location was confirmed. Because the upstairs furnace and air conditioner were more than 20 years old, the client considered the age and potential repair costs and chose replacement.
Max and Christian removed the upstairs gas furnace and air-conditioning equipment and installed a full Bryant ducted heat-pump system. The existing upstairs ductwork remained in place, with no ductwork replacement or modifications completed. Air Care sealed the duct system, which passed the required HERS duct-leakage testing.
The working downstairs HVAC system was left unchanged. The project did not require electrical upgrades or an electrical-panel replacement.
