AC-to-Ducted-Heat-Pump Conversion in San Jose, CA 95136

    San Jose

    Project Overview

Air Care Heating & Cooling helped a homeowner in the Communications Hill area of San Jose replace the home’s original air conditioning system with a new Bryant ducted heat pump system. The townhome is approximately 22 years old, and the existing AC was original to the home. The homeowner also had existing window issues and understood that those issues could continue to contribute to the home not cooling as well as desired, even after the HVAC system was replaced.

Air Care provides heat pump installation in San Jose, CA and throughout the Bay Area.

    Customer Challenge

The homeowner lives in a townhome in Communications Hill. The home is approximately 22 years old, and the air conditioner was original to the home. The homeowner wanted an estimate to replace the aging AC system. He was also aware of existing window issues and understood that those issues can contribute to comfort and cooling concerns inside the home.

    Our Recommendation

Instead of simply replacing the existing air conditioner with another traditional AC system, Air Care provided the homeowner with an option to convert the home to a ducted heat pump system. Before making any recommendation about the existing ductwork, our team performed a full duct evaluation to confirm whether the existing duct design and sizing were appropriate for the new system.

    Our Solution

After completing the duct evaluation, Air Care confirmed that the existing duct design and sizing were adequate for the new Bryant heat pump system. Because the existing ductwork was suitable for the new equipment, unnecessary duct replacement was avoided. Adolph and Chris installed a new air handler in the attic and installed the new Bryant outdoor heat pump in the same location as the original air conditioner. The new equipment was then connected to the home’s existing duct system.

    Outcome

The homeowner now has a new Bryant ducted heat pump system providing heating and cooling through the townhome’s existing ductwork. By evaluating the duct system before recommending replacement, Air Care was able to confirm that the original duct design and sizing could support the new equipment rather than recommending unnecessary duct replacement.

Why the duct evaluation mattered on this conversion

Before recommending any ductwork replacement, Air Care performed a full duct evaluation to confirm whether the existing duct design and sizing were appropriate for the new equipment. Because the evaluation confirmed the existing ducts were adequate for the new Bryant heat pump, the homeowner avoided unnecessary duct replacement.
