    Customer Challenge

The existing furnace had been installed improperly and was tilted away from the proper drainage location. Water was entering the plenum, and the plenum had developed significant rust damage. The homeowner was also experiencing airflow problems throughout the home. The existing vent configuration was limited, the vents were small, and the HVAC system was struggling to properly distribute air. The homeowner wanted the equipment installation corrected, the damaged plenum area addressed, the ductwork replaced, and the airflow problems evaluated and corrected.

    Our Recommendation

Because the existing HVAC equipment itself did not need to be replaced as part of this project, Air Care recommended correcting the installation and rebuilding the air-distribution system around the existing equipment. The plan included temporarily removing the furnace and evaporator coil, correcting the equipment platform so the system could drain properly, addressing the damaged plenum area, replacing the existing ductwork, improving airflow throughout the home, and adding an air scrubber as an indoor air quality component.

    Our Solution

Adrian and Luis removed the existing furnace and evaporator coil so the equipment platform could be corrected. The platform was repaired so the HVAC equipment could be properly positioned and drain correctly. Air Care then replaced the existing duct system. In the attic, we installed new R-8 silver insulated flex ductwork. In the crawlspace, we installed new R-8 blue antimicrobial ductwork. The new ductwork was installed to address the airflow problems the homeowner had been experiencing. The existing HVAC equipment was then reinstalled and connected to the new duct system. Air Care also installed an air scrubber as an additional indoor air quality component.

    Outcome

The homeowner was able to retain the existing HVAC equipment while correcting the installation and air-distribution problems surrounding it. The corrected equipment platform allows the system to drain properly. The new duct system addresses the airflow problems the homeowner had been experiencing, with R-8 silver flex ductwork installed in the attic and R-8 blue antimicrobial ductwork installed in the crawlspace. An air scrubber was also added as part of the indoor air quality improvements.

The air scrubber installed on this project is part of our indoor air quality services.
