    Customer Challenge

The townhome relied on an older, outdated gas furnace that could not deliver cooling or room-by-room comfort. With the home being remodeled, the homeowner wanted a modern solution rather than a like-for-like furnace swap.

    Our Recommendation

Rather than simply replacing the existing furnace, we designed a multi-zone heat pump system around the layout and comfort needs of the remodeled townhome — a ducted air handler for the common living areas and one-way ductless ceiling cassettes in each of the two bedrooms.

    Our Solution

Mark and Frank removed the old gas furnace and converted the home to a high-efficiency heat pump system. All three indoor zones operate from one outdoor heat pump, integrating ducted and ductless HVAC into a single efficient system.

    Outcome

The remodeled townhome now has a modern, all-electric heating and cooling system designed around the home’s layout. By combining a ducted air handler with individual bedroom ceiling cassettes on a single outdoor heat pump, the homeowner gained efficient year-round comfort with greater control throughout the home.

The one-way ceiling cassettes installed in the bedrooms are part of our ductless mini-split services.

Why this design mixes ducted and ductless zones

The system was designed around the remodeled townhome layout rather than as a like-for-like furnace swap: a ducted air handler serves the common living areas while one-way ceiling cassettes give each bedroom individual comfort control. All three indoor zones operate from a single outdoor heat pump, adding air conditioning alongside heating in one all-electric system.

    Installation Process

    1. 1Reviewed the remodeled townhome layout and comfort needs
    2. 2Removed the old gas furnace
    3. 3Set the outdoor heat pump and ran refrigerant line sets
    4. 4Installed the ducted air handler for the common living areas
    5. 5Installed one-way ceiling cassettes in both bedrooms
    6. 6Integrated ducted and ductless zones into one system
    7. 7Completed system startup and operational testing

    Energy & Efficiency Notes

The gas furnace was replaced with a heat pump that provides both heating and cooling, with independent control for each zone. Energy savings were not quantified for this project.

Actual energy use depends on the equipment, installation, ductwork, usage, and utility rates. We review expected performance for your specific system rather than quoting a fixed savings number.
