    Customer Challenge

As a newly constructed accessory dwelling unit, the ADU had no existing heating, cooling, or ventilation infrastructure. The space needed an efficient comfort system that would not require traditional ductwork, along with the fresh-air and exhaust ventilation required for a new build.

    Our Recommendation

We recommended a 1-to-1 ductless mini-split heat pump system for efficient heating and cooling in the compact footprint, paired with an Energy Recovery Ventilator to provide controlled fresh-air ventilation, plus dedicated exhaust venting for the dryer, kitchen hood, and bathroom fan.

    Our Solution

Our installation team, Bryan and Luis, installed a 1-to-1 ductless mini-split heat pump system to provide efficient heating and cooling without the need for traditional ductwork. We also installed an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) to provide controlled fresh-air ventilation and help improve indoor air quality. As part of the ADU construction, our team completed the required mechanical exhaust venting, including the dryer vent, kitchen hood vent, and bathroom exhaust fan venting to the exterior.

    Outcome

The new ADU now has a complete heating, cooling, fresh-air, and exhaust ventilation system designed to provide efficient year-round comfort, proper airflow, and improved indoor air quality.

The Energy Recovery Ventilator installed in this ADU is part of our indoor air quality services.

Why the ADU needed ventilation as well as heating and cooling

The 1-to-1 ductless mini-split provides efficient heating and cooling without traditional ductwork. As a newly constructed unit, the ADU also required controlled fresh-air ventilation, which the Energy Recovery Ventilator provides while helping improve indoor air quality, along with dedicated exhaust venting for the dryer, kitchen hood, and bathroom fan.

    Installation Process

    1. 1Coordinated rough-in with the ADU construction schedule
    2. 2Installed the 1-to-1 ductless mini-split heat pump system
    3. 3Installed the Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV)
    4. 4Installed dryer exhaust venting to the exterior
    5. 5Installed kitchen hood exhaust venting
    6. 6Installed bathroom exhaust fan venting
    7. 7Tested and commissioned the HVAC and ventilation systems

    Energy & Efficiency Notes

A ductless heat pump system paired with an Energy Recovery Ventilator. Energy savings were not quantified for this project.

Actual energy use depends on the equipment, installation, ductwork, usage, and utility rates. We review expected performance for your specific system rather than quoting a fixed savings number.
