Burned AC Wire Found During Maintenance in Sunnyvale, CA 94086

    Sunnyvale

    Project Overview

Air Care Heating & Cooling completed a routine preventive maintenance visit for a Silver Club member in Sunnyvale, CA 94086. The single-family home has a Trane furnace and air conditioning system, and the homeowner had no indication that anything was wrong because the system was still operating. During the maintenance inspection, technician Fernando found a burned high-voltage wire leading to the dual capacitor. Fernando cut the wire back to a section showing no additional visible damage, ohmed out the wire and found no resistance, and replaced the connector. The wiring issue was addressed while it was still a minor repair rather than being left to potentially develop into a larger equipment problem.

    Customer Challenge

The homeowner did not know there was an electrical problem because the HVAC system was still functioning normally from their perspective. During the routine maintenance inspection, Fernando found that a high-voltage wire leading to the dual capacitor had burned. Because the system had not yet stopped operating, this was the type of developing problem that could easily have gone unnoticed without an inspection.

    Our Recommendation

Because the high-voltage wire was visibly burned, Air Care addressed the damaged portion of the wiring rather than leaving the deteriorated connection in service. Fernando cut the wire back until he reached a section that showed no additional visible damage, then ohmed out the remaining wire and found no resistance. The damaged connector was replaced.

    Our Solution

Fernando cut back the burned high-voltage wire to a section with no additional visible damage. He ohmed out the wire and found no resistance, then installed a replacement connector. The repair addressed the damaged wiring while the HVAC system was still operating.

    Outcome

The burned high-voltage wiring issue was found during routine preventive maintenance while the Trane HVAC system was still functioning. Fernando was able to remove the damaged portion of the wire, verify the remaining wire, and replace the connector as a minor repair. This is a real example of how preventive maintenance can identify a developing problem before the homeowner experiences an obvious equipment failure.

The AC portion of the Trane system was inspected during the visit; Air Care also provides air conditioning service & repair for cooling problems found during or between maintenance visits.

Air Care Heating & Cooling completed scheduled AC maintenance for a Gold Club member in Sunnyvale, CA 94087. As part of the Gold Club maintenance visit, Brian cleaned and inspected the system to help identify potential problems before they could lead to an unexpected loss of cooling. During the maintenance inspection, Brian found that the system’s dual capacitor was testing outside of the manufacturer’s factory specification. The capacitor was replaced during the visit rather than leaving a known out-of-spec component in service, helping reduce the chance of the air conditioning system experiencing a capacitor-related failure during hot summer weather.
