James arrived to diagnose a Mitsubishi heat pump that was not providing heat.

Diagnosis

During the diagnostic, James found evidence of rodent activity inside the heat pump. A rodent had built a nest inside the unit and chewed through a thermistor. Debris inside the equipment also contributed to damage to the circuit board.

Repair Performed

Air Care ordered the required replacement parts. James replaced the damaged thermistor and circuit board and cleaned the debris from inside the heat pump.

Outcome

After the repairs and cleanup were completed, the heat pump was tested and returned to operation.

This is also a good example of why routine heat pump maintenance matters. Opening and inspecting the equipment gives a technician an opportunity to identify debris, nesting, damaged wiring or other developing conditions that may otherwise go unnoticed.

Air Care Heating & Cooling completed a routine preventive maintenance visit for a Silver Club member in Sunnyvale, CA 94086. The single-family home has a Trane furnace and air conditioning system, and the homeowner had no indication that anything was wrong because the system was still operating. During the maintenance inspection, technician Fernando found a burned high-voltage wire leading to the dual capacitor. Fernando cut the wire back to a section showing no additional visible damage, ohmed out the wire and found no resistance, and replaced the connector. The wiring issue was addressed while it was still a minor repair rather than being left to potentially develop into a larger equipment problem.
